For the primary time ever, scientists have captured footage of a stay colossal squid (Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni) in its pure deep-sea habitat close to the South Sandwich Islands. Filmed at a depth of 600 meters by the Schmidt Ocean Institute’s ROV SuBastian throughout a dive with Ocean Census, this historic second marks a breakthrough in marine biology. The colossal squid—believed to develop as much as 7 meters lengthy and weigh over 1102.31 lbs.—had by no means been seen alive till now.
