A 28-year-old man was shot and killed in an alleged tried hijacking exterior a store in Newlands West on Tuesday night time.
The person, who had since been recognized as Austin Mark Khan, was shot a number of occasions and died on the scene.
Gareth Naidoo, spokesperson for KZNVIP Safety Companies, stated their response items had been dispatched to the scene after receiving a number of experiences of gunfire at about 6pm.
“Upon arrival, it was found that 4 armed male suspects in a white Toyota Etios sedan had tried to hijack a car close to an area store. It’s believed that throughout the course of the tried hijacking, and whereas fleeing the scene, the suspects fired a number of photographs on the sufferer.
“Regardless of the response of KZNVIP paramedics, the sufferer was discovered critically injured and unresponsive. Colonel Robert Netshiunda, a provincial police spokesperson, stated Newlands East police are investigating instances of carjacking and homicide.
“It has been reported that the sufferer was in his car when he was ambushed by the suspects who demanded his car earlier than fatally wounding him.”
A relative of Khan stated the household demanded justice.
